Small Changes.

July 3, 2013

When I think about all of the big life changes I need to make – eating better, exercising more (losing weight), cutting back on my weekly wine/cocktail intake, getting more sleep, doing better at keeping the laundry folded, finishing school, reading more, quitting smoking (I know, I know – but nobody is perfect), I get a little overwhelmed. Am I doing it wrong??? My husband always talks me off the ledge and encourages me to “make small changes”, little improvements one at a time. Because when you try to tackle too much at once, you tend to hit a breaking point that takes you the proverbial two steps backward in the wrong direction (or at least, that has been my experience).

It’s funny how I forget that the same principle often applies to my home. I bought this adorable little Eskimo fan from Salvation Army about 8 months ago. The blue was cute, and I even kind of liked the rust on it. But the color goes with literally nothing in my home, and I had been wanting to upgrade it a little for a while now. You may have noticed it on my mantel in my THIS POST.

Here is the new and improved version:

I would love to hear about your plans for the 4th of July! Fireworks? Barbecues? Red White & Blue Cocktails??

Your husband sounds like a wise man. I fall victim to the same thing over and over, wanting to change everything at once–especially when it comes to my home! I want to do all the projects NOW. Small changes can be frustrating, but they’re the only way to go. Unless you have a bottomless pit of time and money.

Marlene I am the SAME WAY! Connor had to basically ban me from hobby lobby because I get all crazy and impulsive about crafts I want to do. LOL. He is very encouraging and helps me keep afloat- in more ways than one!

Haha, my beau HATES it when I go to the hardware or craft store. He refuses to go with me anymore because he knows I’ll just get stuck there for hours milling around. Also he’s really bummed about the existence of Craigslist (because he’s the one who has to carry the endless stream of rotating furniture pieces).
