Life is a Picnic.

July 30, 2013

Or at least, it is when your amazing girlfriends surprise you by driving from Houston to Tulsa to spend the weekend with you. My friend Kerrisa was planning to come see me – I was impressed by her willingness to drive the 8.5 hour drive by herself – she had decided to leave the hubby and baby at home for a girl’s weekend. I was pleasantly surprised when Kerrisa showed up with my best friend Treasure! And shocked that everyone had managed to keep her coming with a secret from me – even my hubby, who admitted he almost spilled the beans.

We stayed up late talking on Friday night, drinking wine in the little cobblestone patio in my backyard. The next day, I made Kirby Lane pancakes for breakfast and we did a little shopping at a few thrift stores and boutiques on Cherry Street. Then we headed to Whole Foods (where, coincidentally, there was an ice cream tasting event happening) and grabbed some fresh picnic food. We headed down to Riverside with our food, some blankets, and some strategically chilled champagne, and enjoyed the rarely perfect summer afternoon.

I love these ladies. As you can see, they are gorgeous. They are also smart and funny and amazing in virtually every way. Sometimes I don’t know how I got so lucky to have such an amazing arsenal of friends. It was so special to spend a weekend with them catching up. We ended up staying up until 4:30 in the morning talking on Saturday (well, two of us did – Treasure jumped ship around 3) and I am still paying for it. Totally worth it.
